Fence style
Picket*
Classic charm that says “welcome home”.
A low fence of spaced vertical pickets on rails, traditionally painted timber, also available in aluminium. The classic front fence for period and heritage homes and cottage gardens.

Honest advice
Is a picket fence right for you?*
After 20+ years of building them, here’s when we’d recommend a picket fence, and when we’d point you to something else.
It’s a great fit if…
You have a period or cottage-style home
Pickets suit Victorian, Edwardian and Californian bungalow homes, and are often expected in heritage streets.
You want a friendly, open street front
It marks the boundary while keeping your house and garden on show, which many people feel is safer too.
You need to keep kids or pets in the front yard
With closely spaced pickets and a latched gate, it keeps little ones in without closing you off.
You want to avoid permit headaches
Low front fences usually sit well within height limits, though heritage areas may still have style rules.
You might prefer something else if…
You want a modern look
Pickets can look out of place on a contemporary home. Slats suit modern facades better.
Consider: Vertical or horizontal slatYou want privacy or less road noise
A low, gappy fence gives almost no privacy and little noise or wind protection.
Consider: Colorbond-style steelYou don’t want to repaint
Painted timber pickets need sanding and repainting every 3–5 years. Aluminium pickets avoid this.
